Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important.

TLDR; Personal Information Collection

Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to this website. I am committed to protecting your privacy and the information you share in connection with this site. This Privacy Policy outlines the type of information that is collected by on this website, and how I use and protect it. This Policy also explains the choices that you can make about the way your information is collected and used.

Information Collected

Given the nature of this website, this web site does not directly collect or store any personal data from visitors. The website is composed of static content only, and I personally do not use tracking technologies on this web site beyond the basics of what is available with Cloudflare Web Analytics to gain some simple metrics. Cloudflare uses a tiny JavaScript file acting as a beacon. The Cloudflare Web Analytics FAQ suggests that current ad-blockers disable this beacon unfortunately. I say unfortunately as being aware of traffic for my web site helps me understand what content drives more traffic (and ideally interest).

If you choose to contact me via email, I will collect your email address and any information contained in your message. This information will be used solely for the purpose of responding to your inquiry.

I use ConvertKit for managing and sending newsletter subscriptions. They use Stripe for payment processing. Their privacy policy is long and most of it won’t apply to you as patrons of this web site. They use cookies to identify current subscribers to the my newsletters (both free and paid supporter levels).

As is common with newsletter subscription services, hyperlinks may contain tracking IDs. I have disabled what I can based on ConvertKit’s current functionalities.

Subscriptions and Consulting

I use Stripe for payment, analytics, and other business services. Stripe collects and processes personal data, including identifying information about the devices that connect to its services. Stripe uses this information to operate and improve the services it provides to me, including for fraud detection and prevention. You can learn more about Stripe and its processing activities via privacy policy at https://stripe.com/privacy.

If you choose to support this web site with a subscription or use my consulting services, I’ll see transactions that are made and have access to your contact information as it was provided via the payment process. If you choose to receive email as part of a subscription, I will remove your email from my email distribution list upon request (unsubscribing is available in every broadcast email I send).

Use of Information

If you subscribe to my newsletter, I will have access to information you have provided through the subscription and limited information if you’ve joined as a supporter. I use this information only to support the newsletter publication. Your information is used for nothing else by me and it is treated with the utmost respect, privacy, and care it deserves. It’s secured.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

I do not collect or store personal data from this web site or your interactions on the web site, therefore, there is no sharing or disclosure of such information. If you subscribe to my newsletter or support as a patron, external services, such as Stripe or ConvertKit may collect your personal information as is required to perform a transaction, send an email, etc. I do not share your information with third parties (unless compelled by law to do so of course).

Changes to this Privacy Policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. I will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.

GDPR, et al Compliance

Remember that I’m just a guy writing this blog so requests will be processed as time permits. No matter where you live and what laws might apply, I’m expanding the “request to delete data, etc.” to be for anyone.

You have the right to request access to your personal data, correction of your personal data, erasure of your personal data, restrict processing of your personal data, object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. If you wish to exercise these rights, please contact me. If you don’t subscribe or use my consulting services, all I have is emails you would have sent me. I don’t collect anything else (I’d like to have as little information as is needed anyway!).

If you are a subscriber or have used my consulting services and request your data be forgotten, I will do so as is possible and allowed by third parties, such as Stripe and ConvertKit. Stripe provides general guidance here if you’re interested. Of course, depending on the nature of the request and whether you have paid for services or provided support, I may need to retain some information for legal and tax purposes.
