Free Pascal

1 min read

I still have a soft spot for Pascal, so seeing that Free Pascal is an actively maintained project that runs on many dozens of operating systems both old and new is very fun to see.

Lest you think that’s all there is though with just a free Pascal compiler, there’s also a Delphi compatible IDE called Lazarus — it of course uses Free Pascal as its compiler. It’s open source, LGPL for the libraries, so it’s likely compatible with most licensing needs (but it’s too bad they picked one that would be difficult for some corporations to quickly adopt). I suppose this is for hobby development 99% of the time anyway.

I’m installing it all right now for a quick nostalgic experience.
